As a result of an internal club review conducted over the Bye round, the Kaiviti Silktails have appointed Joe Saukuru as a Coaching Consultant to Head Coach Wes Naiqama for the remainder of the season.
Joe has an extensive background coaching in the Junior Representative Arena with the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Wests Tigers. Saukuru was also Fiji Bati Assistant Coach between 2017 and 2019.
Chairman Petero Civoniceva says Saukuru who hails from Sabeto “will bring 15 years of coaching experience in the NSWRL Elite Pathway Competitions including the Jersey Flegg competition. Our Board, Staff and Players are so excited to have Joe join the coaching staff.”
The appointment of Saukuru adds to the announcement of Timoci Duve as Head of the Clubs Elite Development Pathway Program and new Recruitment and Retention Committee that Chairman Civoniceva sits on, alongside Club Executive Director Stephen Driscoll, Fiji Bati Coach Wise Kativerata and Sydney Roosters Recruitment Manager Dean Feeney.
Saukuru, along with newly appointed Assistant Coach and former Club Captain Rusiate Baleitamavua, will join the Silktails squad this weekend. They fly into Sydney today and make the trek to take on the Newcastle Knights in Newcastle tomorrow.
